“First Class” Drinks Waiter – Kazi Szymanski not forgetting his roots
The 1st XI travelled to Plymouth and had the misfortune to run into a resurgent Fiazan Riaz.
Torquay won the toss and asked Plymouth to have a bat – considering all the rain there has been hardly surprising. Rob Bennett fell when the score was on 43 – enter Riaz who plundered 156 off just 111 balls including 9 * 6s (one ball ended up on the back seat of a BMW having smashed the back windscreen) and 11 * 4s. No Torquay bowler took more than 1 wicket and the economy rates didn’t make good reading with the exception of young Harry Passenger – a quote from a Plymouth official (a former spinner):
“He can be very proud of how he bowled with everything else going on.”
Riaz was 6th out caught behind off Mitchell Pugh – there was then cameos from Sam Stein and Richard West.
When Torquay batted, first out was Elliot Moses – bowled my Joe Hagan-Burt the bowl after our first concussion check of the season. Hagan-Burt bowled with a rarely seen 8-1 field – Billy no mates for Plymouth was our former star spinner, “Little Pethy!” The Plymouth spin twins of Riaz and Petherbridge claimed 6 wickets between them – the latter bowling Torquay’s top scorer James Degg for 55. With Plymouth chasing the last few wickets, an attacking field allowed cameos from Tim Western and Matt Beasant (9th wicket partnership of 69).

STAR PERFORMER – Blaise Baker 7.1-0-30-7
Torquay won the toss and unsurprisingly elected to field after all the rain. The bulk of Abbotskerswell 2nd XI runs were scored by the middle order of Birt, Latham and Rich. The star of the show with the ball for Torquay was Blaise Baker who we believe set a League Record for the E Division West post all through leagues with 7 for 30.
Torquay knocked the runs off for the loss of 6 wickets with returning skipper Matt McCann leading the way with an undefeated 42 ably supported by Steve Lewis. Ben Cowdry with 2 for 12 was the best of the Abbotskerswell.

Probably the easiest decision there will be all season. For the second week running – Blaise Baker.
