Torquay CC are pleased to announce that Blaise Baker will be joining big brother, Sonny, at King’s College Taunton on the Festival Cricket Scholarship next September. Blaise who doesn’t turn 13 until next month, entered open age cricket a year early but took the D Division West by storm last season taking 26 wickets at an average of just 16.46 which included a division record of 7 for 30. (Only someone called Ian Baker took more wickets for the 2nd XI.) Blaise’s bowling feats twice appeared in The Cricketer magazine including the World Cup Winning edition (restrictions on overs probably prevented a third appearance). The end of the season saw Blaise playing a year up for Devon U13s taking 7 for 8 on his debut.
The clock is ticking but here is a thought. Will Blaise claim Harry Passenger’s crown as the youngest 1st XI player ever? To claim the crown, Blaise would have to make his debut on or before Saturday 8th August – the 1st XI are home to Seaton that day.
