Despite the best efforts of a merry band of volunteers the match against Budleigh Salterton fell foul, of the weather by early Saturday morning. So 6 pts each although there has been a suggestion of extra points for the best flying covers display! Next up the longest trip of the season to North Devon who will probably be Overtonless!
The 2nd XI had better luck against Ipplepen CC 3rd XI out at Stover School despite playing on an artificial wicket.
Torquay won the toss and asked Ipplepen to have a bat. Ipplepen mustered 142 for 9 in their 40 overs with Josh Castleton and Toby Holroyd joint top scoring with 24. The leading bowler for Torquay was Harry Passenger, getting some overs under his belt with the 1st XI off (just like George Tapley for Ipplepen) with 4 for 15 off his 8 overs.
In reply, Torquay soon lost Daniel Western before Matt McCann and Noah Rider took Torquay within site, of victory. When Rider fell it was left to McCann and Niall McCarthy to see Torquay home by 8 wickets with over 8 overs to spare.
Next up for the 2nd XI is a visit from South Devon CC 2nd XI who will probably have two Torquay old boys, Dave Lear and Neil Matthews.
Ipplepen CC 3rd XI 142 for 9 (40 overs)
J Castleton 24
T Holroyd 24
H Passenger 4-15
Torquay CC 2nd XI 145 for 2 (31-5 overs)
M McCann 57*
N Rider 40
Torquay CC 2nd XI (19 pts) beat Ipplepen CC 3rd XI (4 pts) by 8 Wickerts
Player of the Day
Well this week’s winner is Matt McCann for his unbeaten 57. McCann who is the oldest player to make his Tics 1st XV debut batted with three youngsters who combined ages was only 2 years less than his age.
A special note most though also go to Matthew Potter on his debut having returned to the club having finished his university studies. A fine catch off the bowling of Dinesh Giri.
