Fifth Report from South Africa

Devon’s penultimate match of the tour is against Western Province U14s in a 2 day 2 innings a side match and is being played at the Western Province Cricket Club.

The hosts won the toss and elected to bat.  They were soon in trouble – 2 wickets down and only 7 runs on the board.  Wickets kept falling on a regular basis with Noah Rider claiming 2 for 60 off 15 overs (spin twin Harry Passenger didn’t bowl – hopefully just being saved for the 2nd innings).  The hosts in their 1st innings were all out for 211 in 71.1 overs.

By the close of play in reply Devon had reached 110 for 1 off 31 overs.  Jake Pascoe the only wicket to close to the end of play for 58.  Noah Carlisle remains undefeated on 39 (Harold Shaw the legendary scorer from Bovey Tracey will be mentioning “The 39 Steps” by John Buchan as he looks down from Heaven).  Neither Harry nor Noah have been required to bat yet – according to the scorecard they are due in at 7 and 8 respectively.

Report on Day 2 to follow.
