First Report from South Africa

Devon U15s opened their tour of South Africa with the now traditional 50 over match against the Johan Rudolph Academy XI at Skukuza.  (Johan is the father of Jacques Rudolph who played midweek for Torquay CC before going on to play for South Africa.)

Purely for interest, Skukuza is the administrative capital of the Kruger National Park.

Devon, with both Harry Passenger and Noah Rider in the side as nominated batsmen, lost the toss and were asked to have a bat.  Devon were all out for 151 after 48.3 overs.  Whilst Noah unfortunately didn’t trouble the scorers.  Harry scored a quick fire 22 with a strike rate of 78.57 (the best of any of the Devon batsmen).

The Academy XI had their innings reduced to 40 overs – the revised target being 131 runs.  The Academy XI knocked the runs off with just 1 ball to spare but 5 wickets in hand.  Harry though was the most potent bowler taking 3 wickets for just 24 runs off his 8 overs.

Next up for the spin twins, after a day’s rest, is a two day match against Nelspruit High School at the same venue.
