Redruth 68 all out.
Torquay 70 for 5.
Torquay won by 5 wickets.
Torquay made the 2 hour journey into Cornwall to face Cornish Premier League side Redruth. Torquay won the toss and invited Redruth to bat, the hosts soon found themselves in trouble as Ben Passenger 4 for 24 and James McMurray 3 for 12 ripped through their defences leaving them all out for 68 inside 20 overs.
What seemed an easy target to chase down soon had the visitors wobbling at 8 for 3 but the arrival of Mitch Pugh (39*) settled the ship and along side Tom Drake saw Torquay home for the loss of 5 wickets.
Making their 1st team debuts were Sonny Baker and Harry Passenger.
1st team captain, George Allen commented on the victory, "it was great to actually get out and play some cricket after so much rain. I thought our attitude was spot on from start to finish. The boys bowled great lines and were backed up by some fantastic ground fielding and catching. It was good to bring in Sonny and Harry to gain some early experience of 1st team cricket and proves that we are a club who are willing to put some faith in our youth system. That said, Ben Passenger bowled a great opening spell that put the pressure on Redruth and despite a little wobble early on, we were never going to lose this one. "
"I can't wait to start our league campaign away to Brixham on Saturday which will no doubt be a lot tougher."
Torquay have been drawn against Wadebridge in round 2 on May 13th.
