Devon’s Academy making up for the lost season of 2020, returned to the University Sports Ground at Topsham to hone their T20 skills against Exeter University 2nd XI containing four players who recently played for the 1st XI against the MCC.
The University won the toss and asked the Academy to have a bat. Just like in the previous match against the University’s 1st XI, Harry’s trusted willow wasn’t required with the Academy amassing 109 for 6 in their allotted overs. Lawrence Walker a fellow tourist to South Africa with Harry in 2020 top scored with 33. The best of the university’s bowling was Lucas Pugh (no relation as far as we know) with 2 for 16.
In reply the University fell just 6 runs short, finishing on 103 for 7 in their 20 overs. Luke Maslen, one who played against the MCC top scored with 33. The outstanding bowler for the Academy was Ben Privett who took 2 for 4 off his 4 overs. Harry bowled 2 overs for 11 claiming the wicket of Albert Grieve – a 3rd ball duck. Harry also caught Callum Hogan off the slightly more seasoned bowling of Josh Farley.
With the weather closing in the second half of the double header was played under the T10 format resulting in a 11 run win for the University. Harry on this occasion was relegated to specialist fielder.
Next up for the Academy is a T20 double header, on 16 May, against their counterpart’s from over the Tamar – Mount Kelly being the hosts.
