Torquay Cricket Club are extremely pleased to announce their young speedster, Sonny Baker, has been included in the 12 man squad for a T20 double header against Dorset CCC at Bridgwater CC this coming Sunday. He will be just 17 years and 163 days if he plays.
Sonny will be maintaining a family tradition as his uncle, Andy Hele, who briefly played for Torquay, skippering for a season, was part of the Devon CCC squad who won the 1998 MCCA Trophy.
The Devon side will be skippered Sonny’s coach at Kings College Taunton, Alex Barrow. Obviously Sonny has been forgiven for clean bowling him for 97 last season! Also in the Devon is Somerset staffer Ollie Sale who played his formative years in Devon and spent a winter out playing grade cricket in Sydney with our very own Kazi Szymanski.
The second half of the double header will see former Torquay spinning starlet, Matt Petherbridge, join Sonny in the twelve man squad.
The Dorset team sheet may also see another familiar name, Max Waller. Max was the club’s match day pro for several years and when not needed for Somerset CCC, now turns out for Bridgwater CC and his home county Dorset CCC.
A useless fact but Sonny was just 3 months old when the first professional T20 match was played in this country!
Good Luck Sonny!
