Torquay CC are sad to announce the passing of Richard Barr OBE, aged 100, who was the club’s oldest surviving player (according to Conrad Sutcliffe). Though records are limited from his playing days during the 1950s, he was from all accounts a formidable fast bowler. It is known though he played in the 2-day match v Leicestershire CCC in 1956.
Barr was responsible for bringing engineering giants, Centrax, to the area and he was still non-executive chairman until his death.
Remarkably Richard Barr was born just a day before Captain Sir Tom Moore and less than 13 miles away!
