Seventh Report from South Africa

The final match of the tour saw Devon take on Western Province U15 in a 50 over per side match at The Vineyard Oval which has held a first class match.

Devon won the toss and elected to bat. Devon reached 34 before losing their first wicket.  After that wickets fell regularly subsiding to 91 for 7.  Harry Passenger was 4th out – caught for 4.  Noah Rider and Jack Whittaker put on 25 runs for the 8th wicket.  When Whittaker was out, Noah was joined by Teddy Haffenden and they put on 17 runs for the 9th wicket – Noah was eventually bowled for 11.  Devon were finally all out for 162 after 48.2 overs.

In reply, Western Province made fairly easy work of reaching the target – knocking the runs off after just 31.5 overs with 7 wickets remaining.  Bowers with 64 and Iategan undefeated on 49 scored the bulk of the runs.  Harry Passenger went for 35 runs off 7 overs.  Whilst Noah Rider wasn’t required to bowl he did have the satisfaction of taking Devon’s last catch of the tour – catching Bowers off the bowling of James Tyler.
