Weekend 1 – 3 Day Match
Sonny was selected to play for the Young Lions North to take on Young Lions South. Though probably done to balance the sides up, Sonny may have qualified through father Ian’s ancestry.
The South won the toss and elected to bowl and the North were out relatively cheaply with Sonny unfortunately not seriously troubling the scorers. When it came to bowl, Sonny was first change claiming two wickets but not the prize scalp of Josh de Caires son of Mike Atherton. Second time around, the North had better luck with the bat, with Sonny the last man in – a brief cameo of 10. Come the final innings of the match, the South were still chasing a relatively modest total, but the North, led by Sonny who was given the new ball, made them work hard for their 3 wicket win. Sonny claimed one of the 7 wickets to fall.
Though probably no consolation in defeat but Sonny actually scored more runs then de Caires.
Weekend 2 – 1st 1 Day Match
Sonny was once again adopted by Young Lions North.
The South once again won the toss and asked the North to have a bat and soon had them in trouble at 120 for 6. The lower order performed a rescue act including a 9th wicket partnership of 47 with Sonny supporting George Bell with a value 14 runs.
In reply the South were reduced to 35 for 4 and never really recovered with Sonny taking 2 early wickets finishing with 2 for 30 off 8 overs. The South were finally all out 39 runs sort of their target.
