The DCL Finally Returns And…

.... you guessed it, it rained! Twelve weeks later than planned and eleven years after Torquay had last played arch rivals Barton. Despite this “time” was called on the match early due to the rain. Had the players decided to hang around in their cars, then play could have been possible later. One thinks this could become an issue in these extraordinary times.

The rain alas also prevented a planned Minutes Silence to remember the victims of Covid19 especially the NHS staff who have sadly passed away. The 2nd XI who will be hosting Bovey Tracey 3rd XI next week will now lead the club’s show of respect.

Last year when the 2nd XI were away to Bovey Tracey 3rd XI. Young Noah Rider had Mike Pugh, now our club’s Head of Cricket Development, catch and bowled for 39. It was Mike’s highest score for any Bovey Tracey XI in his last season before he returned “home”.

The 1st XI will travel to the edge of Dartmoor to play Bovey Tracey 2nd XI. Will Mike Pugh get a chance to play on one of his former home grounds?
