THE SPIRIT OF CRICKET

The last two seasons may have been difficult for both the club and cricket in general thanks to the pandemic.  However, the club hasn’t wasted the opportunity to carry out some reputational repair and it certainly borne fruit.  Whilst the 1st XI didn’t secure a return to the “Premier League”, the club are pleased to announce that Chris Kelmere is the 2021 A Division Captain of Year as marked by qualified independent umpires appointed by DACO.  This wouldn’t be possible without his loyal side kick, Tom Drake, and support from all the players who have represented the 1st XI.  A vast improvement from the dark days of 2019.  Now the ultimate goal of no size sixes up backsides being needed in 2022!

Kels, no pressure though but the only other Torquay CC captain to win a Captain of the Year Award was Justin Yau, and the 1st XI won a title the year after!

Actually Kels, your award should have meant an appearance on the “red carpet” at the DCL AGM.  Evo though vastly experienced at acceptance speeches on behalf of more captains then he cares to remember, handed the role over to Tim this year!

Tim also morphed into a mixture of the many captains of the victorious 2nd XI who won F Division West last season to collect more silverware.
