Third Report from South Africa

After the disappointment of the washout against Nelspruit High School.  Devon U15s headed to the coast to take on Bergvliet High School in a 40 over day / night match.

With few if any of their players having ever played under lights before.  Devon won the toss and elected to bat in natural light. Devon were all out for 170 off the last ball of their allotted overs.  Harry Passenger was unable to repeat his exploits from the first match – this time he was out caught and bowled first ball.  Though all players in the squad play only 11 bat – Noah Rider was one of the players stood down from batting duties for this match.

Bergvliet High School in reply lost their opener Thomas cheaply for just 7 runs – caught by Harry.  Harry was wicketless in his spell going for 24 runs off his 6 overs.  Wareley and Plaatjies put on 106 for the 2nd wicket before Noah took a fine caught and bowled to remove the latter for 53.  Noah also claimed the 3rd wicket to fall – Wareley stumped by Dunn for 49 to give Devon hope.  Noah returned figures of 2 for 22 off his 8 overs.  In the end, Bergvliet High School won by 7 wickets with 5 overs remaining.

Next up for the tourists is Newlands Cricket School in a 1 day match this Sunday.
