After basically a two year hiatus the Under 15s returned to action taking on Bovey Tracey U15s.
Of the 12 players led by Beau Rider on the night, all 10 eligible for open age cricket have now been registered for the Devon Cricket League, a first for the club. A big thank must go to Christine Nott and Evo for making this happen. A quote from Evo, “I’ve never known someone so pro-active in getting the parents sorted.”
Back to the match, Beau won the toss and decided Torquay would bat. After the first ball this might not have seen such a good idea. However, 2nd XI regulars, Josh Nott and Bobby Western, repaired the damage, with 24 and 17 not out respectively. Josh fell to a next generation Bradley (the Bradley’s are the equivalent to our very own Western family). Torquay managed to score 90 runs in their 20 overs for the loss of just 3 wickets. No Bovey Tracey bowler managed to take more than 1 wicket.
In reply, Albie Bradley and Gethin Williams both reached 25 and had to retire as per the league rules. Bovey Tracey ended up 6 runs short of the target in their 20 overs for the loss of just 3 wickets. No Torquay bowler managed to take more than 1 wicket.
A big thank you must go to Matt McCann, who with Steve Rider stuck in traffic, took on scoring responsibilities despite having had a frantic day teaching “little urchins.” By doing this, Matt freed up Evo to get parents to sign on the dotted line regarding the registration of their children for the Devon Cricket League.
Next up for the U15s is a visit from Kingsbridge CC this Thursday.
