The U15s headed out to Hazeldown Oval to take on Shaldon Optimists CC with a side containing no fewer than 3 1st XI and 3 2nd XI players.
Harry Passenger won the toss and elected to bat. After a couple of early dismissals it was left to Niall McCarthy (39), Noah Rider (35) and James Tyler (27) to get the bulk of the runs – Passenger himself having a rare failure. Morgan Couch with 2 for 20 was the best of the bowlers and Torquay finished on 149 for 5 in their 20 overs.
In reply the main share of the Shaldon runs were scored by Harrison Linnett (31) and Morgan Couch (24) both of whom falling to Harry Passenger who returned figures of 3 for 9. He was ably assisted by his spin twin, Noah Rider with 2 for 11. Shaldon fell 27 runs short of their target losing 9 wickets in the process.
With such a strong team - there was no Jack Allcock who is currently out on loan to Babbacombe CC getting invaluable experience of senior cricket or Bobby Western now a regular with the 2nd XI. Alas we will never know but for Covid19 whether they would have won the league at a canter.
