Senior Second XI
After last years success and domination in the B Division in 2015, winning 17 out of 17 games, nearly a season and a half still unbeaten and victorious in 31 out of the last 33 league matches over two seasons; it is with pleasure and a privilege in being chosen to take over the reins from previous 2nd Team Captain Joe Crooks, who this year is taking time out from cricket to travel. Having been passed the batten from Joe, sustaining the winning ways of Torquay 2nd team and steering them to yet another successful season now in the A Division in 2016, is a challenging task but a responsibility that will not be taken lightly.
Many records were broken last season, with Timmy Western leading the batting from the front with 660 league runs and an average of 82, Matt McCann with arguably the most impressive batting average over the whole of the Devon Cricket League with a 109 run average over 7 games, and four batters in total with an over 50 average.
On the bowling front, Ben Passenger was the leading wicket taker in 2015 with 32 wickets in total, and him and Sam Carpenter - one of the club’s brightest young prospects – both having two of the best single game bowling performances in the whole of the Devon Cricket league, with Ben’s 7 wickets for 14 runs performance, and similarly Sam‘s 7 wickets for 12 runs; both outstanding efforts and alongside other notable bowling efforts from some other regular 2nd team players, these definitely played a part in our batters successfully chasing down some fairly low opponent total scores.
Much like last season, again this year we have another very strong squad and it will be very interesting to see how we fare against slightly better opposition in the A Division. Best wishes to all involved, and to anticipating what we all hope is another successful season for Torquay 2nd team.
Membership Form for 2018 Season
Volunteers needed to get the Clubhouse ready for the season. Dates are 21st and 28th April. Any time you can give on any of those dates will be gratefully appreciated.
Torquay Cricket Club will again be running an All Stars programme this summer. Last year saw 18 boys and girls enjoy sessions at The Rec. We have a good number of youngsters already signed up but there are still places available. Tim Western and Dylan Karssens will be delivering the programme, which is part of a national initiative, which saw 18,000 involved in 2017.
