The first home match since the merger took place with the 1st XI hosting Plymouth CC 1st XI.

After some confusion, Plymouth won the toss and elected to bat.  Plymouth were soon in trouble with Ritesh Dabhade on a hat trick.  Teddy Haffenden survived the hat trick ball and for the second week there was a proud mummy scoring for the opposition, as Haffenden went onto score 101 before sacrificing his wicket in a run out mix up to allow Richard West to score his maiden DCL 50 – an excellent example of The Spirit of Cricker.  The best of the T&K bowling was Chris Kelmere with 2 for 22 and Dabhade with 2 for 29 – the bowling was slightly hindered by some “sick noteism” and Sonny Baker ordered by his employers not to bowl.  Plymouth finished up on 235 for 6 in their 50 overs, helped by 40 extras.

In reply, it was a case of hero to zero, with last week’s hero, Chris Kelmere soon back in the pavilion.  At 149 for 9 surely T&K were dead and buried.  However, Nathan Roux who only flew into the country on Wednesday along with Ritesh Dabhade gave hopes of a miracle win.  Roux was finally out for 108 have protected Dabhade from the strike (0 not out of 5 balls).  T&K finally fell just 30 runs short with 10.4 overs remaining – oh how they will rue all the Extras they conceded.  The best of the Plymouth bowlers was Richard West with 3 for 54.

It didn’t go unnoticed by this season’s match ball sponsor, the lack of activity when it came to ball searching when Nathan Roux despatched some 6s Rathmore Road side!

Feet up for the 2nd XI this weekend – well mostly!  The 2nd XI return to action next weekend when they host Teignmouth and Shaldon CC 2nd XI at The Rec.

The 3rd XI went on their travels to take on DCL new boys, North Molton CC 1st XI, and came away with their first win.

Matt Rossin won the toss and elected to bat.  Rossin led from the front along with Steve Waters scoring 59 and 43 respectively in a 1st wicket partnership of 108.  This was ably supported by Mike Pugh who wanted some time in the middle before playing for Deon O50s 1st this Wednesday at The Rec with 33.  T&K put on 182 in their 40 overs.  The best of the North Molton bowler’s was John Dallyn with 2 for 43, although one interesting bowler was Rob Ayre formerly of North Devon CC and usually a wicketkeeper, who will be skippering Devon O50s.

In reply, Kyran Jones led the run chase with 51 supported by skipper James Tapp with 39.  However, North Molton fell 23 runs short – being all out with 4.4 overs remaining.  The star with the ball was Richard Saunter with 4 for 24 supported by Abu Bakar, Anthony Nadar and Matt Rossin (you couldn’t keep him out the action) all with 2 wickets each.

Player of the Day

While clearly Matt Rossin and Richard Saunter on another day could have been the winner.  It has to go to Nathan Roux.

Spectator Watch

Well how many 1st XI are watched by a 1st Class Scorer?  Not many.  Yesterday, though, Don Shelley the scorer for Middlesex CCC.  Evo had worked with Don, eleven years ago at the Home of Cricket.
